WHAT IS FOOTIES?
Footies began in 2015 with the aim of enhancing the Fairhope rec experience for the soccer community. Footies is a development program that provides a more advanced training environment for rec players who seek to develop individual skills at a more accelerated rate than the traditional recreational model offers. Footies train under the guidance of professional coaches once a week throughout the entire recreational season.
In Spring 2018, we implemented a change to the Footies training package. Based on feedback from our community, and in an effort to better serve all of our players at the highest level, Footies players will be placed on Footies rosters and will not play non-Footies teams during the season. It is vital that all players within the soccer community are able to excel and be challenged in an age appropriate way. We continue to be proud of this developmental program as we enter our third year of implementation. We believe this minor alteration of the training /playing structure will serve our players in an enhanced way and continue to strengthen our growing soccer community
The Footies program also provides parent education by effectively communicating the strategies and curricular choices made by coaches who are trained to elicit guided discovery with each and every player.
HOW DOES FOOTIES WORK?
Footies is open to all U7 and U8 players. To ensure proper team formation/player placement, ALL registered Footies players will have evaluations on Monday, August 19th from 5:45-6:30pm.
Footies training will take place Mondays from 5:45-6:30 this Fall. Attendance at all practices is not mandatory, but recommended so that your child will receive the greatest benefit from the program.
Footies coaches advise volunteer coaches with the shared goals of: 1) fostering FUN and 2) introducing and reinforcing early learning focused on individual skills and fundamentals of the game.
It is highly recommended that players who register for Footies have completed one full season of rec soccer.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD BE LEARNING?
Ultimately our charge is to provide rec soccer players an opportunity to be part of a high quality developmental program led by licensed, professional coaches as well as Fairhope rec volunteer coaches. Aimed at players that possess a strong passion for the game, Footies is a soccer development program that follows US Soccer’s age-appropriate soccer curriculum to enhance technical ability and basic tactical awareness.
The Footies Developmental training program will provide a fun and challenging environment that will enhance each player’s confidence, technique, and instincts to accelerate an understanding of the game and better prepare them for more competitive environments in the future.
HOW CAN I HELP/BE INVOLVED?
Parent education will be a priority. Practice sessions will be open to the parents and the structure of sessions will be explained via email and/or informal meetings by either the lead coaches, the Director of Coaching, or the FSC Development Director.
We welcome all parents into the program, regardless of your experience with or knowledge of the game! Any parent who is interested in serving as a volunteer assistant (coach, assistant coach, team coordinator) should communicate that desire during the registration process – we would love to have you!
