US Soccer Initiatives

Overview
Over the past year, Alabama Soccer has been involved in discussions with our parent organizations, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and US Youth Soccer, regarding potential mandated rule changes to the youth soccer structure. 
At the USSF Board Meeting held July 5th, the USSF Board of Directors approved the Player Development Initiatives developed and proposed by the National Coaching Staff.  These two initiatives mandate small-sided games at Under-12 and a move from school year (Aug. 1-July 31) to calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31) age groups.
US Youth Soccer will implement calendar year age grouping for player registration beginning with the 2016-2017 soccer year for all US Youth Soccer programs and competitions.  To align with regional and national competitions, Alabama Soccer will also adopt the calendar year age grouping for State-run programs beginning August, 2016.  Alabama State Cups and Leagues will be run on calendar year age groups starting with the 2016-2017 season.  There will be no change to the Olympic Development Program (ODP) or Elite Development Program (EDP), as the programs already operate by calendar year.
